Terms of Use
The agreement between you and us when you use Casa, written to be read.
The short version
- Casa is free to download. Changing your data needs Casa Annual, which starts with a two-month free trial where you're eligible.
- The subscription renews each year until you cancel, which you can do any time in your Apple Account settings.
- Your recipes and household data belong to you. If your subscription ends, you can still view and export all of it.
- Casa helps you organise your kitchen, but it isn't a food safety or allergy tool. Always check your food.
- Nothing in these terms takes away your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
1. About these terms
These terms apply to your use of Casa: Meal Prep & Planning (the "app") and this website. Casa is made by Ben Anderson, an independent developer in Australia ("we", "us"). By downloading or using Casa, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.
2. Your licence to use Casa
Casa is licensed to you, not sold, under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the Standard EULA), which applies alongside these terms. If the two conflict, these terms apply to the extent the law allows. Apple is not responsible for Casa or for supporting it.
3. Casa Annual and the free trial
Casa is free to download. Adding and changing recipes, pantry items, plans and lists requires an active Casa Annual subscription or free trial.
- Free trial. Eligible new subscribers get two months free. Apple decides eligibility. For example, you won't get the trial again if you've had it before.
- Billing. When the trial ends, your Apple Account is charged the annual price shown in the App Store before you confirm, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
- Renewal. The subscription renews automatically each year, and your account is charged within the 24 hours before the renewal date, unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Managing and cancelling. You can manage or cancel at any time in your Apple Account subscription settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Refunds. Payments are processed by Apple, and refund requests are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. This doesn't affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
- Family Sharing. Where available, the subscription can be shared with your Family Sharing group.
- Price changes. If the price changes, Apple will notify you in advance as required by App Store rules and the law, and ask for your consent where required.
If your subscription ends, Casa keeps your data and you can still open the app, browse and search everything, and export a full backup. Making changes will need an active subscription again. A cooking session already under way can always be finished.
4. Your content
Everything you add to Casa, including recipes, photos, notes and household information, remains yours. We don't claim any ownership of it, and because Casa has no server, we don't receive it.
You're responsible for the content you add and share. Recipes you import from websites, books or other apps may be protected by copyright. Casa is intended for your household's personal use of recipes you're entitled to keep. Please don't use it to republish other people's work.
5. Sharing a household
When you share a household, everyone you invite can see, add to, change and delete its recipes, pantry, plan and list. Only invite people you trust. Sharing uses iCloud, so each person needs their own Apple Account and iCloud access, and sync depends on Apple's services. Changes may take a little while to appear on other devices.
6. Food safety, allergies and nutrition
Casa helps you organise food, but it can't see, smell or taste it. Best-before dates, use-soon reminders, stock levels and "ready to cook" indicators are only as accurate as the information you and your household enter, and they're not a guarantee that food is safe to eat.
Always check food before eating it, follow the storage and handling instructions on packaging, and use your own judgement. Casa doesn't provide medical, dietary or allergy advice. If you or someone you cook for has an allergy or intolerance, check every ingredient and label yourself, including substitutes.
7. Suggestions and Ask Casa
Some Casa features make suggestions or interpret information automatically, for example importing a recipe from a web page or photo, reading a receipt, suggesting prep reminders or meals, and answering questions with Ask Casa. These features can make mistakes, such as misreading an amount or misunderstanding a question. Review imported recipes and suggested changes, and double-check anything important before relying on it.
8. Other services and content
Casa works with services provided by others, including Apple's iCloud, App Store, Siri and Apple Intelligence, Open Food Facts for barcode lookups, and the websites you import recipes from. Those services have their own terms, and we're not responsible for their content, availability or accuracy. Websites can change or block imports at any time, and some content may be paywalled.
9. Using Casa fairly
Please don't misuse Casa. For example, don't use it for anything unlawful, don't try to disrupt it or other people's use of it, don't use it to infringe other people's rights, and don't reverse engineer it except as the law allows.
10. Changes to Casa
We're always working on Casa, so features may be added, changed or removed over time. Some features depend on your device, iOS version, region or language, or on services such as Apple Intelligence. We'll try to give notice of significant changes. If we ever stop offering Casa, we'll give you a reasonable opportunity to export your data first.
11. Australian Consumer Law
Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy, or any guarantee, warranty or other term or condition, implied or imposed by the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that can't lawfully be excluded or limited. If you live outside Australia, you may also have rights under your local law that these terms don't change.
12. Limits on our liability
Apart from the rights described above, and to the extent the law allows, Casa is provided "as is". We aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as spoiled food, missed meals or lost data, arising from your use of Casa. Where our liability for failing to meet a consumer guarantee can be limited, it's limited to supplying the service again or paying the cost of having it supplied again.
Keep your own backups. Casa's .casa export is there so you always have a copy of your kitchen.
13. Ending these terms
You can stop using Casa at any time by deleting it and cancelling any subscription. We may suspend or end your use of Casa if you seriously breach these terms. Sections that are meant to continue, such as those about liability and your content, continue after these terms end.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws in force in Australia, and you and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Australian courts.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time, for example when Casa gains new features or the law changes. We'll post the new terms here with a new effective date, and for significant changes we'll let you know in the app or its release notes. If you keep using Casa after the changes take effect, the new terms apply.
