Getting started

What do I need to use Casa?

An iPhone or iPad running iOS 17.6 or later. To sync between devices and share with your household, you'll need to be signed in to iCloud.

A few features need more: scanning receipts and printed recipes needs iOS 26 or later, and Ask Casa needs iOS 27 or later on a device that supports Apple Intelligence.

Where should I start?

Casa has four main areas: Recipes, Plan, Pantry and List, plus Search for finding anything. A good first week looks like this:

  1. Import a handful of recipes you cook often.
  2. Add the staples in your cupboard, fridge and freezer to the Pantry.
  3. Put a few meals on the Plan for the coming week.
  4. Let Casa build the shopping list from what the plan is short of.
Why can't I see Ask Casa?

Ask Casa lives behind the sparkle button on the Pantry tab and only appears when Apple's on-device model is ready. Check that your device supports Apple Intelligence and runs iOS 27 or later, that Apple Intelligence is turned on in Settings, that its model has finished downloading, and that your device language is supported.

Your household and sync

How do I share Casa with my household?

In Casa, open Settings, then Household, and choose to share your household. Casa uses Apple's iCloud sharing, so you can send an invitation by Messages, Mail or a link. Each person needs Casa installed and their own Apple Account signed in to iCloud. Once they accept, you'll all see the same recipes, pantry, plan and list.

A change isn't showing up on another device

Casa syncs through iCloud, which is usually quick but not instant. If something hasn't arrived after a few minutes:

  • Make sure both devices are online and signed in to iCloud.
  • Check that iCloud is allowed for Casa in the Settings app, under your name, then iCloud.
  • Open Casa on both devices. iOS may pause syncing for apps that haven't been opened for a while.

If it still hasn't caught up, email us and we'll help.

How do I leave a shared household?

If someone else shared a household with you, open Settings, then Household, and choose Leave Household. The household stays as it is for everyone else. If you're the owner, you can manage people or stop sharing from the same screen.

Recipes and importing

Can I bring my recipes from another app?

Yes. Export from Crouton (.crumb), Paprika (.paprikarecipe or .paprikarecipes) or Mela (.melarecipe or .melarecipes), then in Casa's Recipes tab use the add menu and choose Import from File. Casa tells you how many recipes it added, and skips any with the same name as a recipe you already have.

A recipe website wouldn't import

Most recipe sites work, but some block apps, sit behind a paywall, or don't publish their recipes in a form Casa can read. Try copying the recipe text and using Pasted Text in Import from Web, or save a photo of the recipe and use Import from Photo. Recipes shared to Casa that couldn't be imported are kept so you can retry, fix the link or discard them.

What does "Check amount" mean?

It means Casa knows you have an ingredient but can't be sure you have enough. For example, the pantry says you have "some" rather than an amount, or a recipe uses a unit like pints that means different things in the US and the UK. Rather than guess, Casa asks you to check.

Subscription and billing

How does the free trial work?

Eligible new subscribers get two months of Casa Annual free. After the trial, the subscription is billed yearly through your Apple Account unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Apple decides trial eligibility, so if you've had a trial before, you'll see the standard annual price instead.

How do I cancel?

Open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose Casa and tap Cancel Subscription. You can also manage subscriptions on the App Store. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.

I've subscribed, but Casa doesn't know

In Casa, open Settings, then Subscription, and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple Account you subscribed with. If you subscribed through Family Sharing, check that the purchaser has sharing turned on for subscriptions.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles all payments for Casa, so refunds are requested through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something's wrong with Casa itself, please tell us too.

What happens if my subscription ends?

Nothing is deleted. You can still open Casa, browse and search every recipe, plan and list, and export a full backup. Adding or changing things needs an active subscription. Subscribe again at any time and pick up where you left off.

Privacy and your data

Can you see my recipes or pantry?

No. Casa has no server. Your household is stored on your devices and in your own iCloud account, and is shared only with people you invite. Read the Privacy Policy for the details.

How do I back up or move my data?

Open Settings, then Data, and choose Export All Data. Casa creates a .casa file with your whole household, photos included. To bring it back, choose Import from File and pick the backup. Casa shows what's inside before anything changes, and importing adds and updates rather than deleting.

How do I delete my data?

You can delete individual recipes, items and plans in the app. To remove everything, leave any shared households, delete Casa from your devices, then remove Casa's iCloud data in the Settings app: tap your name, then iCloud, open storage management, choose Casa and delete its data.
